| CAMP! works best with a full roster of workers but can
easily be modified to fit almost any situation in which you may be
required to work. Keep in mind that your needs dictate your
approach but a little creative flexibility can solve most potential
problems. |
| Character | Description | Notes |
| Camp Director | Main assembly and Council Fire personality. Acts as M.C. and generally keeps things organized and running smoothly. | Can be the same person as the actual VBS Coordinator or another volunteer. |
| Song Leader | Helps energize and encourage campers to participate in the singing. Will teach the songs to the campers. | With slight adaptations the Camp Director and Song Leader can be the same person. |
| Kodiak (puppet) | Camp mascot and central figure in the daily Assembly and Council Fire. | Works best with 2 puppeteers. |
| Nature Guide | Leader of the Object Lesson Activity Station. | |
| Craft Master | Leader of the Arts and Crafts Activity Station. | |
| Recreation Director | Leader of the Games Activity Station. | |
| Storytime Guide | Leader of the Video Bible Story Station. | |
| Camp Chef | Leader of the Snack Activity Station. | |
| Groundskeeper | Council Fire personality. The Groundskeeper presents a brief message that wraps up the theme for the day. | Even though a specific Groundskeeper character is recommended, with slight modifications to the script, any of the Activity Station Leaders could take responsibility for this brief but important portion of the day's events. |
| Muskrat Cabin Drama Team | Provide skits at Council Fire. | High energy and physical stamina required. Adults can play the roles but should be encouraged to present themselves as other campers. |
| Poison Ivy Itch and Scratch Dancers | Assistants to the Song Leader, this group of 4 to 10 help teach songs and lead the campers in doing the motions. | Use older campers, youth, or even puppets. High energy and good attitudes a must. |
| Cabin Leaders | Responsible for main divisions ("cabins") of campers. In charge of groups of campers ranging in size of 5 to 50. They manage the activity schedule and make sure the campers under their supervision get to the correct Activity Station each day. | The number of campers per cabin (one Cabin Leader per "cabin") is pre-determined by the VBS Coordinator and/or staff. 5 cabins is the minimum needed (one cabin per Activity Station), but any number of cabins can share an activity station, depending on available space. The more cabins, the more Cabin Leaders needed. |
| Counselors | Responsible for sub-divisions within a "cabin". Each counselor oversees a group of campers numbering not more than 5 and all from the same cabin. The main responsibility is to be a "friend" to their group of campers and help them in any way needed. | One counselor needed for every 5 campers. A counselor can double as the Cabin Leader. We recommend recruiting older youth for these positions. |
| Registration Helpers | Handle the registration of each camper and make sure the information gets where it is needed. | |
| Staff Aids | Perform assorted tasks as needed (i.e., gofer, copy maker, messenger, etc.). | |
| Offering Assistants | Collect, weigh, and tally the daily offerings from the competitions. | Staff Aids or Registration Helpers can perform this function if other responsibilities do not keep them too busy. |
