A little discussion on The Holy Spirit .
Wade’s Ghost
By James Beltz
(Wade is on stage looking around for something or someone…)
WADE: OK. I know you are there. I can’t see you but I know you are there someplace. Where are you? You are supposed to be helping me out. Now come out from were ever you are. I got problems and you are supposed to be helping me. You behind this curtain? (Looks behind stage curtain wall.) Nope. You over there on the other side of the room? (Holds his hand up as if shielding the light from his eyes as he scans the other side of the room behind the audience. A mock salute gesture.) Nope. Hmmm… Now where have you gone off to? One fine helper you are!
(Zoee now comes on the scene…)
ZOEE: Hey Wade! How’s it going?
WADE: Hey, Zoee. It’s going to be going pretty good if I can find Ralphie. He’s supposed to be helping me out.
ZOEE: Oh… I’ll help you look for him.
(They both begin looking around and hollering for “RALPHIE”. They repeatedly call for him a couple of times when Zoee stops and asks Wade a question)
ZOEE: Umm… Hey Wade? Who is Ralphie? I don’t think I have met him.
WADE: Oh, he’s just my guardian ghost. RALLLLLPHIE?!?!!? Where are you at????
ZOEE: Ohhhh! Your guardian ghost. Right. Of course… Wait a minute. Did you say ghost?
WADE: Yep! My GUARDIAN ghost! He’s supposed to be helping me.
ZOEE: You have a ghost for a friend???
WADE: Sure do!
ZOEE: AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! A ghost! A Ghost! Run for your lives! It’s gonna get us!
WADE: Well now hang on, Zoee. Ralphie is a good Ghost. He won’t get you.
ZOEE: WHAT??? How can any ghost be a good ghost? AAAAGGGHHHH! Did you hear that? I think heard it moaning from over there. (Zoee points off stage.) Quick, Wade, hold me! (Zoee jumps into his arms and buries her head) I’m Scared!
WADE: Zoee, you don’t have to be protected from this ghost. He’s a good ghost. He’s the one Pastor was talking about on Sunday. You have one too. I named mine Ralphie, but I can’t seem to find him. RAAAAALLLLLLPHIE?!?!? Where are you at?
ZOEE: Wait a minute… Are you talking about the Holy Ghost? The Holy Spirit?? The one that Jesus said would come to help us?
WADE: Yeah, that’s him. Now help me find him. I have a problem I need him to help me with. RAALLLLLPPPHHHIIIEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Where are you?
ZOEE: (Sighing) Oh Wade. You misunderstood. There’s only one Holy Spirit and he is not an actual “ghost” like you might see in a movie. And his name isn’t Ralphie.
WADE: Not a real ghost?
ZOEE: Well, not like what you are thinking anyway. When Jesus left the disciples and went back to heaven, he told them that they would not really be alone. He told them that the Holy Spirit would come and would be there for them as a comforter. And He is still here now; providing a way for all believers to feel connected to Jesus, and his Father, God.
WADE: You mean He doesn’t help us?
ZOEE: Well, sure he does; but not like a friend that you can ask to help you clean your room.
WADE: How did you know I was going to ask him to help clean my room!?!?! Are you a mind reader?!?
ZOEE: Oh, Wade. Come on. You asked me to help you do that yesterday. Helping you clean your room is about the only thing you ever want anybody to come over for.
WADE: Nuh-uh. (PAUSE) Sometimes I want somebody to help me mow the back yard.
ZOEE: Whatever. The point is The Holy Spirit is here to help us know about God and know that He is watching over us.
WADE: Oh. Well that’s a little different, isn’t it?
ZOEE: Yes. Yes it is.
WADE: Want to know what else is a little different?
ZOEE: What’s that, Wade?
WADE: Peanut butter and oyster sandwiches! Want to go get one? I’m starved!
ZOEE: Eiiuuuu! That is just soooo gross! I feel a little sick just thinking about it.
WADE: No. They’re great. C’mon!
