NOAH'S STORY
© Puppet Productions

by Jack Shearer

CAST: Ralph and Dudley (DOG)

SCENE: Boy and his dog on stage. (Human actor would be a nice substitute for Ralph.

RALPH: Hi folks, my name is Ralph, and I've come here today to tell you a story. You're probably wondering who this is with me. It's my dog, Dudley, and believe it or not ... he's a talking dog. Dudley's going to help me with the story, right Dudley?

DUDLEY: Roof.

RALPH: I can see there are a few people out there that don't believe you can talk. Let's give them some proof. (DOG NODS HIS HEAD YES). Name one of the books of the Bible,

DUDLEY: Ruth.

RALPH: Ruth! Right, Dudley! Very good (PATS DOG ON HEAD). Are you all ready to help with the story? (DOG NODS HEAD YES) Good. A long time ago there was a man named Noah. Noah lived among very wicked people. In fact everyone was so bad that God decided to destroy the earth with a flood. Only Noah and his family found favor in God's eyes. God told Noah to build a boat ...

DUDLEY: Ark.

RALPH: Right Dudley! It was called an ark. He and his three sons worked on the ark for many years. God gave him the dimensions and told him what kind of wood to use. By the time it was done, it was longer than a football field. God then told Noah to gather every animal, male and female, into the ark.

DUDLEY: Shark!

RALPH: No, there weren't any sharks. Only animals and birds, no fish. Noah believed God and obeyed Him. It took a long time, but they finally got all the different animals on the ark. Then Noah and his wife and his three sons and their wives went into the ark.

DUDLEY: Dark!

RALPH: Right. The sky became very dark. All of a sudden it began to rain. It rained and it rained and it rained. Forty days and forty nights, non-stop. The waters went above even the highest mountain. Every living thing on earth was destroyed. Only Noah and those in the ark survived.

DUDLEY: Shark!

RALPH: Oh, yeah. The fish lived, but everything else died. After the rain stopped, the ark floated on the waters for a long time, and finally rested on a mountain. Noah waited a while, and then sent out a bird to see if it could find dry land.

DUDLEY: Lark!

RALPH: No Dudley, it wasn't a ]ark. It was a raven, and it never came back.

DUDLEY: Shark!

RALPH: Maybe a shark did get it, who knows? Anyway, Noah waited a little longer, and sent out a dove. The dove came back. Noah waited longer, and sent out the dove again. The dove came back again, this time with a twig from an olive tree. The third time he sent the dove out, it didn't come back. Noah figured it must have found dry ground. After being in the ark for over a year, Noah realized it was finally safe to come out. The first thing Noah did when he got out was to build an altar and offer a sacrifice to God. God was pleased that Noah did this and put a rainbow in the sky as a promise to Noah, and the human race, that He would never destroy the earth by a flood again. And that's the story of Noah.

DUDLEY: Art, arf.

RALPH: Right, Dudley, we better get going. (ASIDE TO THE AUDIENCE). It's his mealtime. If you want to read about Noah for yourself, his story is found in the first book of the Bible. Be seeing you. Bye!

DUDLEY: Yeah, let's go. I'm starving!
