Day 2 - SOCK HOP

Theme: God Is Spirit

Bible Verse: God is spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and in truth.  John 4:24

50’S HITS INTERLUDE BEGINS APPROX. 5 MINUTES BEFORE SOCK HOP STARTS.  THE BAND AND THE HOPPETTES TAKE THEIR PLACES

SOCK HOP THEME STARTS

Johnny: All right all you cats and chicks...

Jena:   Get those shoes off and let’s rock!

SOCK HOP THEME PLAYS

Johnny: Yeah! Welcome to the Sock Hop!  Has everybody had a good time today?

Kids:   (RESPOND)

Jena:   Are you sure?

Kids:   (RESPOND)

Johnny: What was your favorite thing today?  (ENCOURAGE ALL TO TELL YOU LOUDLY AND AT THE SAME TIME).

Jena:   Cool.  Me too.  Hey, let’s sing our Day 2 Song again – God Is Spirit.  Remember it?  We sang it at Kick Off earlier.

Johnny: Come on Hoppers...let’s see everybody really move.

SOCK HOP SONG #2 (God Is Spirit)

Jena:   Fantastic!  Didn’t you think so, Johnny?

Johnny: I sure did.  And I think it was so fantastic we should sing the song from yesterday too.

Jena:   Good idea.  Ok cats and chicks, let’s go crazy with “God Is!”

(SOCK HOP SONG #1 (God Is)

Johnny: Okay, one more song and you can take a break band and Hoppettes.  But first, we have to do our...

BOTH:   Sock Hop Dance Contest.!

Johnny: You guessed it, Jena.  You go pick the contestants tonight.  Okay.  Hoppers, we’re going to have some of you come up here on the stage and dance during our next sing-along.  If you’d like to be in the contest, put your hand up and let Jena know.  If she shakes your hand, you can come on up.

ALLOW SELECTION

Jena:   Okay.  Now, as the music plays, everyone in the audience can dance if you want, but you who I just picked have to give us your best dance moves.   The more you move the better we like it.  While you’re dancing Johnny and I will come along behind you.

Johnny: If we touch you, that means you can go sit down.  The last one dancing wins!

Jena:   Everybody ready?  Hit it, Mr. D.J.

PLAY SILLY 50’S SONG SUCH AS “HAND JIVE” OR SIMILAR.

(WALK BEHIND THE DANCERS AND ELIMINATE ALL BUT THE MOST WIGGLY.  WHEN SONG ENDS GIVE SMALL PRIZE AND SEND WINNER BACK TO SEAT)

Johnny: Very, very cool dance moves there.

Jena:   Hey! I think it might be time to play the Beach Ball Game again.

Johnny: All right!  The Beach Ball Game!

EXPLAIN AND PLAY GAME (see notes at end of Day 1 Sock Hop)

COLLECT ALL THE BEACH BALLS

Jena:   Tell you what... we’ll just keep a continuation of this score through the end of the week and see which side comes out on top.

SOUND EFX FOR MEMORY VERSE DRAWING

Johnny: Oh, oh, oh.  You know what that sound means?  It means it’s time for our memory verse drawing.  Jena, would you go get the Hopper.

Jena:   Sure (GOES AND GETS CONTAINER WITH NAMES IN IT)

Johnny: Here’s how this is going to work, Jena will pick one piece of paper out of the hopper and read the name of the person and the High School on it.  If it is your name, and school, and you want to try to say the verse for a prize, then you jump up and come up here with us.

Jena:   Yes, but if you don’t want to try to say the verse in front of everyone, when we read off your name, you yell NO right back at us, and we’ll pick another name.

Johnny: But listen, anyone else who yells “no” besides the person whose name we call will not be allowed to try if we pick their name.  So, while we’re finding the person to try, let’s everybody else, cool it.  Okay, Jena, pick a name.

Jena:   (PICKS NAME AND READS IT.  BOTH WELCOME WINNER UP ON STAGE.)

HAVE CONTESTANT ATTEMPT TO SAY VERSE (INCLUDING BOOK, CHAPTER, AND VERSE)  IF SUCCESSFUL, AWARD CD.

Johnny: I dig this man, I dig it.  We’re going to do this every day so get your memory caps on and give it a try.

Jena:   Remember, we’ll get the verse from Space Commander Jack tomorrow at Kick Off.  Don’t be late or you might miss it.

Johnny: Ooh!  Ooh!  We need to do a contest.

Jena:   A contest.  What kind of contest?

Johnny: How about... Armpit Raspberries?

*** ANOTHER CONTEST - ARMPIT RASPBERRIES  (see notes at end of page ___)

Jena:   You know what, Johnny?  Tomorrow’s another day and we’re going to have another song to sing.  I think we ought to learn it tonight.

Johnny: That sounds like a wild idea to me, Jena.  Okay, gang.  Hit your feet.  Let’s watch the Hoppettes and sing a new song.

SOCK HOP SONG #3 (God Is Everywhere)

Jena:   I love that song.

Johnny: Me too!  Let’s do it again!

REPEAT SOCK HOP SONG #3 (God Is Everywhere)

Johnny: Hey, it’s been a great day, hasn’t it kids?

Kids:   (RESPOND)

Jena:   And tomorrow will be even better.

Johnny: Don’t forget to bring heavy money with you tomorrow  for our Mission Offering Competition. Quarters, dimes, nickels, it all counts and we’re going for weight.  Each person who is in the High School that has the heaviest offering at the end of the week will win a prize.

Jena:   And all the money will go to help out __________________.  They are doing important things for people who need it and we want to help them do what they do.

Johnny: Right, and that’s the reason we need you to bring a lot.  Well, Jena, do you think we ought to sing the Sock Hop theme one more time?

Jena:   I sure do, Johnny.  Come on all you cool cats and chicks, let’s rock this place!

SOCK HOP END THEME

ARMPIT RASPBERRIES CONTEST

Explain that armpit raspberries are the noise some people can make by sticking their hands inside their shirts, cupping their armpits, and then squeezing the hand with the arm causing a “raspberry” sound to be emitted.  Find kids who can do it and then give them each 15 seconds each (in front of the microphone) to make as many raspberries as possible. Have the audience count.  The one who makes the most raspberries in 15 seconds wins a prize.
